The distances from the Earth’s surface to space and those between the Sun and planets (averaging almost 93 million miles between the Sun and Earth!) are difficult to conceptualize. You'll be surprised by how close space is, with only 60 vertical miles separating us on the Earth’s surface from the edge of the atmosphere. In this video we will create a scale model of the Solar System to compare how far the planets and the Sun are from each other. Additionally, the video will show us driving 60 miles in 150 seconds - the time it takes for space shuttles to exit the atmosphere. Don’t worry; we’ll obey the speed limit!
